FIXING A LIGHTNING CONDUCTOR.
The dangerous process of fixing a lightning conductor to the stack at the Bute Merthyr Colliery, which is over 100 feet high, took place on Tuesday last. An expert had been engaged for the purpose from the North of England.
By means of a large square kite he threw a chain over the top of the stack, and by this means he fixed a pulley at the top, by which he worked himself up and down. Once when on the top, he amused (?) the people below (where a great number had assembled) by standing on his head on the top of a 9in. wall.
A lock-up is being built here now and may be expected to be ready about December. The premises are very extensive.
