Memories from locals:
John Bundock
“On the left was a forge. Danny Allen was the blacksmith. He took over from his father David. Danny retired when the roof of the forge collapsed. Fortunately he heard some creaking, went outside and the roof collapsed. The Allen family lived next door to the forge, now 110 Bute Street. Later Danny lived in Mount Libanus Street. After the forge was demolished there was a car showroom on the site. Before Tapper opened the garage the carts that collected the rubbish were kept in the building and the horses stabled underneath.”
