“The Basin Walk” proved a huge success in spite of the fact that there were only six competitors. Large numbers had gathered in Station Street to witness the start, whilst many others had placed themselves in various positions upon the mountain sides up which the competitors had to climb. A little alteration had been made in the original route.
The new walk was simply once on the Graig-y-Ddelw side, around the basin, and down on the other side, back again to the Railway Bar. The competitors walked well, the first four arriving home near one another in the following order :—1, Fred Cullen 2, Cox; 3, Will Davies and S. Griffiths.(dead heat). Cullen, who seemed to be the favourite. took the lead and kept it to the end. Treherbert Conservative Club members walked on Thursday evening to the Miskin Hotel, Trealaw, returning through Tonypandy. There were 10 starters. The distance is about 13 miles. First, W. Lewis, 2 hours. 11 minutes; 2, T. J. Brown, 2 hours 14 minutes 3, H. Moses. 2 hours 16 minutes 4, dead heat. J. Jenkins and W. Morgan; 6, D. Davies; 7, George Evans.
