Ynyswen Burning Fatality

Nightdress Caught Fire.

On Friday last, at the Treherbert Police Station, Mr. R. J. Rhys (coroner) conducted an enquiry into the death of Gertrude Drake, daughter of Mr. Fred Drake, Brynhyfryd Place, Penyrenglyn, Treherbert. Early on Tuesday morning, the 19th inst., the child found a box of matches in the house, and began to play with them. Her nightdress caught fire, and Mrs. Drake, who was upstairs, heard the child’s screams and hurried down to the back kitchen, to find her daughter in flames. The following morning the child succumbed to the burns which she had sustained. The jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death.”
