How to Grow Leeks: Summer Maintenance for a Better Harvest

A handy tip to gain a better leek harvest this winter. This tip is in addition to planting the leeks deeply at the start of the season by using a dipper.

The tubes are made from organic material of wood pulp, recycled paper and textile fibres. I find that cardboard falls apart after a few showers of rain and the slugs/snails start to eat them. I tried loo rolls once and won’t go back to them. I’ve heard some gardeners have experienced fungus coming out of the loo rolls.

  1. I bought some paper ‘recycled’ pots for seed sowing and they started growing fungus after a couple of days, before the seeds even started growing. I threw everything away and started over with cleaned up plastic food trays.
