Starting the #theFast800 by Dr Michael Mosley

After reading Dr Michael Mosley’s book The Fast 800 from cover-to-cover, today was the day it all kicked off. The shopping for the entire month arrived at 8am and was packed away in their various locations around the kitchen. The idea of the book is that you eat 800 calories a day and is good for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease which I have.

The first meal of the day on my well organised meal planner is Boiled Eggs with Spiced Asparagus Soldiers. Not having cooked asparagus before this meal took a bit longer than I would imagine to prepare.

BOILED EGGS WITH SPICED ASPARAGUS SOLDIERS

230 cals

125g asparagus spears
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon olive oil
Pinch of ground cumin

– Cut or break off the woody ends of the asparagus and blanch the spears in a pan of boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain them and set aside.
– Boil the eggs as you usually would.
– Heat a griddle pan on the stove. Toss the asparagus spears in the olive oil and sprinkle with cumin, black pepper and salt if you like them. Cook for 3-4 minutes turning them a few times, until they are tender and slightly charred.
– Serve with the eggs.

Day 1
It was surprisingly filling and am now a fan of asparagus! Already looking forward to having it again for breakfast tomorrow. I may even consider growing asparagus in the garden.
