How to Get an Allotment?
There are two types of allotments, council run sites and private sites. The first port of call should be the Leisure Department of the local council authority. They will have a list of all their sites and may even have a list of privately run site. Next is to ask in your area, the local shop keeper will know everything that is happening locally.
Every local authority is different but it usually goes along the lines of filling out your details and list, in order of preference, your top 3 allotment sites. Once a plot becomes available you’ll be invited to visit the site and see what is on offer.
HOW MUCH IS AN ALLOTMENT TO RENT?
Rents are taken yearly and vary depending on site and location. I’ve had plots ranging from £48.50 a year to £350, it just all depends where you are in the UK.
